why is there no good notes app
why is there no good, free, open-source, cross-platform notes app?
some googling around, and they actually try to tell you that OneNote is
a good app. yeeeah, no. i do not want to be dependent on a singular
company with a questionable background in software security and privacy
issues. i heard the name Notion and googled it. 'Your all in AI...' NOPE.
thanksbutnothanks. and the rest is either pricy, needs a company server,
or can be used everywhere, except on linux/windows/macos. i gave it some
thought, and the real, acutal problem seems to be the syncronization. if
you want to have an app or something like that on every system, that
would be an easy solution, as long as this system has some kind of
browser. but syncing to the server or logging in to one creates a dilemma.
i mean, it's no problem to set up a server and use it for everything
you want, but the minute you want somebody else to use it, it gets
complicated. not only the security aspect gets glitchy, but now you must
consider saving the data, keeping it secure and so on. and: what if you
shut down the server, because it gets too expensive or you don't need it
anymore? that is my biggest issue with it: keeping the infrasystem
sustainable.
maybe this would be a situation where NFTs or blockchains could be usable.
the server is everyone using it, and if there is only one person left
using it, and the person shuts it down: yeah, well. that's life, i guess.
