2026-10-21 - did the internet just went offline??
-----------------------

just a short burst - this morning, two major security issues in PHP were discovered, and suddenly, the entire internet scrambled to pick up the pieces. several of the pages i visit daily went into maintenance mode and are struggeling to come back up again. i mean, as a security guy, i love this kind of commitment, but i just witnessed the world wide traffic to just crumble down like a major attack had happened.

i think this is something we'll see a lot more often - ai had made it a lot easier to build exploits and to use them faster. in earlier times, when an exploit was discovered, it had to be dealt quickly, but the common consence of it was basically: yeah, okay, it's dangerous, but since there is not a known exploit, it will take weeks and months to exploit it, and it's a very specific error in a very specific version, so let's not worry about it.

but with ai, the gameplan changed - suddenly, we can code an exploit the second we discovered the error. the market in cyber security will rise to the point where the cost of security will match the cost of production. which is just an economic equilibrium - you can't collect free money from the streets without everyone noticing. if there is an extraordinary amount of money to be made in IT, it will take an extraordinary amount of money to keep it. Scrooge McDuck did not only have money - but also a money bin.
