2026-10-11 - i give up
-----------------------

not gonna lie, i thought it was time. ai is everywhere, and as Linus Torvalds once said, this genie is out the bottle, and you won't get it back in. so better to embrace it. i was always a kind of progressive in terms of technology: machines were made to enhance and support human kind. in the 90s, we were yearning for the times when finally the robots were smart and versatile enough to make our lives easier. and quite frankly, they did. they can support mining, can do dangerous jobs, and now also support us coders with suggestions.

i just want to say, robots or not: i still want to own the stuff i create. just because my brush has become an electronic pen, just because i use a gps and not a map, and just because i ask a sophisticated word completion parrot for code suggestions, i still own the stuff i do. i decide which fragments make it in the final product, and i decide which risks to take and which not. it is also important to be sure what i can maintain and what i can't. the best code is useless if i don't understand it.

recently, i've read a piece where someone made a good metaphor, regarding the use of ai for mathematics: it's like not walking towards the pike of a mountain, but getting instantly beamed there. you might be confronted with the actual result, but you missed the entire evolution and did not learn anything from it. maybe this is what people still crave for: not being at the finish line, but getting there.
